Still Life of Still Life, 1996
I was intrigued by the assignment that lead to these six paintings. The instructor, Joseph Hoh, constructed a three-sided, table-size, cardboard architectural setting for simple still-life groups. I decided to make my paintings consist of both the architectural setting , which I built with wood, and the still-life objects I placed inside. With Scotch tape and coloured paper the architectural setting became the carrier of colour surrounding the still-life objects inside the structure.
I do not often paint realistically, so this project, while not difficult, provided me an opportunity to enjoy mucking about with representational drawing, and painting in an abstracted architectural space.
