Isometric Drawings with Colour, 1997

These six oil paintings on canvas were part of my final project of six diptychs toward my BFA at the University of Victoria. The accompanying works were plaster on tempered hardboard panels 48 x 32 inches. Though none of these panels exist anymore, I include a few photographs here.

The three-dimensional geometric industrial objects in the six oil paintings were found in a 1960s high-school manual on graphic design rendering and technical drawings. I am interested in graphic instructions for students making any kind of technical image.

These paintings were my first use of oil paint since the mid-1970s. The colours I use in the paintings are meant to be a lighthearted antidote to the severity of the technical drawing.
